I had forgotten about the direct drop of the Moscow subway escalators. Like London they plummet
Except these go 5 stories so the ride is literally 4 minutes–I counted–straight down. I have dramatic vertigo and usually have to put something or someone in front of me to block the catyclismic view STRAIGHT down. I was there so early that I was Alone. NO big luggage or people to block for me. For the first minutes I looked sideways at the wall but that was too disorienting and the escalator was really moving and panic was setting in. I tried closing my eyes but that was worse. So finally I just sat down on the escalator steps and buried my head in my backpack until the torture was over. Close one. How do you explain hurtling yourself down the stairs?
