All of us did our research before coming here and all of us believed we were coming to a third world country.
All of us were wrong. We are astounded about Uzbekistan. We expected a “backward” country, VERY Muslim, covered up women, difficult. etc. Instead we have found a thriving country, the cleanest in the world (except for Singapore which lives under marshal cleanliness law). Not a speck of trash ANYWHERE!! The hotels, lavatories, restaurants etc. are spotless. The food is interesting and delicious.
The people are warm and friendly with Mexican appreciation for humor and teasing. The art and souvenirs are top notch especially the textiles, carpets, cloisonne, clothes.
Everything is efficient. Recycling is the norm.
Our group was discussing how embarrassed we were with our small minds and Western attitudes. I would recommend this place to anyone without reservation. I loved the group with whom I am traveling but it would have been very easy as a solo female to make this journey.
