Before I get to the details I want to give a few observations. Latvians smoke. Everyone working in shops smokes and their clothes smell like smoke even though no one smokes indoors. All those outdoor cafes are surrounded by smokers
I don’t know where they go for ciggie breaks when it’s 25 below zero. ALSO cigarette packs come with gruesome PHOTOS!! of people’s faces destroyed by cancers. But. . .
Bicycles. Riga is a flat city covered by extensive bike lanes. It is also very law abiding. Even with no cars in sight everyone waits for the pedestrian and bicycle green GO light
EXCEPT for the many mad bicyclists who ride at breakneck speed on the sidewalk.
Hotels have the best breakfasts. All the usual like eggs cereal sweet rolls
But add three or four types of pancakes. Herring and smoked salmon, 5 types of cheeses, all kinds of interesting vegetable combinations, multiple yogurts. Feast your eyes.

That’s a first for me–taking pictures of the food
ART NOUVEAU
Please google this topic for Riga
I seldom take pictures of buildings except to exemplify something else like kitsch or culture
With 600+ buildings there must be Google or You Tube tribute.
The beach. 2 minutes outside if Riga you are in the country. In 30 minutes you are here
I did take some pictures of houses because they are so different.

Also the beach is 33 miles long and the water is warm!!

The Latvians know how to do a
toilet
Finally

The sign tells you where to hang out based on your recreation choices but l didnt see much passive vs active

The train was right out of a movie and, of course, a neat place for the bike

Maybe the reason I dont take too many pix of sites is because I cant get the light right. I used flash, auto, back light and ROTATE and this is the result
Anyway a PINK church with BLUE cupolas had to be captured

Riga is sorrounded by flowers

And finally another light-challenged picture
A tribute to the animals who preceded us into space never to return.
