As you know I was really fortunate to meet Jerome and Erik in Japan and to meet Bayara as well.
This is another difference being older. My younger self would have been going out at night. The last time I was in Japan I went to a disco. I had a bottle of beer that came in a quart bottle and was warm. Everyone danced with the back of the person in front of them because no one was in partners they were in lines each doing their own thing.
I remember that night because I left the disco with some people I met and we went to a party. I thought nothing of getting in their car and going.
Now I am not even going out after dark. This limits me from meeting local people because it was always dancing or bars or music that gave a connection even if there was a language or culture barrier.
I might venture forth in Riga or Tallin to try to overcome this and see if I can recapture some adventureous spirit in the evening. It’s light until 11PM anyway and the sun rises at 3AM so there is plenty of day light.
One more thing. In China, as big as it is, there is only Bejing time. No time zones. Those in the west simply start their day later. They rise when the sun comes up even if that is 10AM (It’s already been daybreak for 4 hours in Bejing). Everything just moves back to accommodate the Bejing clock.
Here the time table is in Moscow time even though we started out 5 hours ahead. I stayed with the 5 hours because no one could tell me when we were going over any time zones so I am completely confused now.
And NO INTERNET!! That was a real loss
